6Teen is a hit cartoon for the teen and tween set (though adults will really enjoy it too) that, appropriately enough, is set in a mall. The 6Teen Dude of the Living Dead DVD features the one-hour title episode and the half hour Halloween episode Boo, Dude! I very much like 6Teen and I am a big fan of Halloween episodes so this is obviously a DVD I enjoyed and that I am certain my buddy's kids, a tween and a teen, are going to watch a few times.
Boo, Dude! the bonus episode on 6Teen Dude of the Living Dead has Jude, Wyatt, and Jonesy trying to prank their nemesis the mall rent-a-cop. The dudes know this is going to be quite a challenge but circumstances do not help. As a secondary story Coach Halder, the guy who runs the sports shop, is a little over the top when it comes to Halloween and this drives employee nuts and customers to the hospital. There are a couple of scatological jokes here so you might want to avoid this episode if you think a burka is a little too revealing.
The title episode of this 6Teen DVD, Dude of the Living Dead is the 45 minute Halloween show that uses zombies to get its laughs. Basically, zombies take over the mall where Caitlin, Jude, Wyatt, Jen, Jonesy, and Nikki work. This episode is only cartoon scary, okay, very cartoon scary, well-made, original, and a lot of fun to watch.
In fact 6Teen Dude of the Living Dead is superior to a lot of Hollywood's zombie fare. It's hard to believe but Jude, Caitlin, and even the Barbies may be cartoon characters but they are much better actors than a lot of human actors in most horror movies. The writing is also much better than that of a lot of living dead movies with a few nods at some classic disaster movies here and there.
The ending to Dude of the Living Dead is perhaps not up to par with the rest of this really good 6Teen Halloween special but this does not take away from a superior installment of this Canadian cartoon most of the family can enjoy more than once.
