2008 - The New Package Shows

I like package shows, or as I prefer to call them, buffet shows. An established stand-up comic as your host and five or six established, fairly well-known, or new face comics as the main event. All the advantages of a Just For Laughs gala show without the ticket price and with possibility to have a beer -and sometimes sit really, really close to your neighbor.

The Ethnic Heroes of Comedy is a new package though if you have been to the Wiseguys Show, Uptown Comics, Britcom, or O'Comics you just might see a pattern here. Host Frank Spadone will share the stage with the great Gabriel Iglesias, Maz Jobrani, and Steve Byrne. July 15 and 16 at 7:00 and July 17 and 18 at 9:30 at the Metropolis. This could be very interesting.

A really new ticket and probably about time really is the music comedy show Amp'd. It will be hosted by Craig Robinson and feature Jon Lajoie. This is a show I would want a better idea of the line-up before I commit my comedy dollar. Chances are since it is a 11:59 P.M. show there should be tickets left when Just For Laughs starts off. Then again, I could be wrong. It is at Cabaret Juste Pour Rire, a smaller venue so I would not wait too long. Look for a new tag for this show next year as dollar to donuts it will do well.

Another new show is the Alternative Comedy Show. The title pretty much explains that concept. Host Andy Kindler, who is president of the Dane Cook fan club -as in introducing Dane Cook to an industrial size fan-- will take the stage of the Cabaret Juste Pour Rire July 18th and 19th at 11:59 P.M.  Kindler's annual state of the business in-house talk is always packed and he is funny. This is probably not a safe ticket if you are a sensitive soul.

Of the new packages, The Alternative Comedy Show is probably the one who should be back next year. I am also betting it will sell out pretty damn quick.

Nasty Girls is a show I am betting it is sold out by the time this article is posted -I tried getting tickets for the early show and wiped out-- but maybe you can get lucky. The great Sheryl Underwood will MC the two shows with Patty Rosborough and Paula Bel scheduled to appear along with others. This is a one night only gig at the Club Soda July 19th at 9:30 and 11:59
