Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control is a fun straight to DVD nerd spy comedy. You do not have to have seen the 2008 Get Smart Steve Carell movie to enjoy this spinoff though there are a few references to the movie that will fly over your head if you haven't. This DVD is really 60 minutes long with 11 minutes worth of credits / outtakes.

Bruce and Lloyd work in the tech department at Control and are exactly what two science geeks should be: nerdy guys better at Wii than wiimen. They can also give Bond's Q a run for his money when it comes to gadgetry although theirs are much less lethal.

Bruce and Lloyd have invented an invisibility cloak (aka Harry Potter movies) and figured out how to extend battery life. This, it seems, is their only decent invention. It gets stolen and since all of Control's agents are compromised the two science geeks have to play secret agent and get the blankie back in time to Control's assistant chief.

This really is a straight to DVD comedy but it is entertaining, funny, somewhat original at times, and the comic gadgetry is on the way cool side. The story itself is very thin and is a mess in terms of its structure but Masi Oka and Nate Torrence are pretty good second banana actors working with fun buddy movie characters and a decent script that takes a few nifty digs at the CIA such as "if we do it it becomes ethical".

Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control is an obvious attempt at milking the box office success of the Get Smart movie starring Steve Carell. Honestly, it works. This is your basic good second rental style DVD.
