In this day and age there are so many ways to have a baby whether it is the old fashioned way, through adoption, or, as in this comedy by hiring a baby mama. In the new DVD Baby Mama this is exactly what Kate Holbrook (Tina Fey of Sarah Palin, 30 Rock, and Saturday Night Live fame) decides to do. Kate is a successful business woman who is desperate to have a baby of her own. But when she finds out she is unable to, she hires Angie Ostrowiski (Amy Poehler of Saturday Night Live fame) to be her surrogate.
As she soon finds out she is pregnant Angie leaves her boyfriend and moves in with Kate without an invitation Kate discovers Angie is not really the motherly type. She is in fact somewhat of a child herself. She spends her days eating junk food, playing karaoke and watching television. Not to mention that she sticks her gum under Kate’s very expensive coffee table.
She soon becomes so much like a child that it becomes problematic, so Kate steps in to teach her a few points on growing up and becoming a woman. This of course is done with great difficulty. This is where Kate becomes surrogate mother to the surrogate mother.
Baby Mama is one of the funniest DVDs I have seen in a while. It is a comedy about the joys of motherhood and the peculiar things women do to enter it. Even though it was a little slow paced from time to time, I felt the script was very well written and the actors’ comical timing was excellent. The cast included such actors as Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Greg Kinnear and even Steve Martin as Barry, Kate’s strange Zen boss.
If you are looking for a really good comedy that hits all the right notes, Baby Mama on DVD does the trick. Even though this is a wacky and highly parodied comedy about the complexity of relationships and the bumps that come along with them, people will find movie is not far from reality and this is why Baby Mama is such a great DVD.
