There is a conspiracy behind the new Alvin and the Chipmunks CD Undeniable. The Chipmunks are 40 years old and no chipmunk has ever lived that long: these can’t be the original Chipmunks. There is also the fact “new Alvin” sings at a slightly higher pitch than the Alvin of Christmas Don’t Be Late. Also, only Mick Jagger could still sing with the energy Alvin and the Chipmunks show on Undeniable so there is no way these are the originals.
I was on one of those internet dating sites –don’t ask—and answered a forum about great Christmas tunes with Christmas Don’t Be Late (me I want a Hula Hoop) The response was immediate and quite nostalgic. There is no need to be nostalgic, Alvin and the Chipmunks are back –if you can say back about replacements-- with a new cover songs CD, Undeniable. Alvin and the Chipmunks (New Version) “still” rock.
The first couple of funny songs on this Alvin and the Chipmunks CD, We’re the Chipmunks and Shake Your Groove Thing, are quite ordinary. Things get a lot, I mean a lot better with covers like Livin’ on a Prayer, Don’t Stop Believin’, and Time Warp.
I am sure a few old-time stoners will recognize the cover of Led Zeppelin’s Rock And Roll because they probably played the vinyl on 45 all those years ago.
Less successful on this CD is the new Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas song, Ho Ho Ho which tries to be like Christmas Don’t Be Late but fails.
You will absolutely looooove the cover of Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now THAT is a classic.
Songs and covers by the new, and I am certain they are not the original, Alvin and the Chipmunks on Undeniable are: We’re the Chipmunks (Deetown Remix), Shake Your Groove Thing, Livin’ on a Prayer, Three Little Birds, Thank You, All the Small Things, Acceptance, Don’t Stop Believin’, Ho Ho Ho, Rock and Roll, Home, Undeniable, We’re the Chipmunks, and Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
