Corner Gas blows … 100 candles this week before closing its seventh and last season in a couple of months. Not too many Canadian situation comedy shows make it to the big one-oh-oh, then again most Canadian sitcoms suck. Corner Gas has proven to be the exception to the rule and ruled Canadian TV for 7 years. You can catch episode 100 on CTV Monday March 2nd at 9:30 and watch it again, and you should and will want to, on The Comedy Network March 8th at 8 P.M. Both, by the way, will be erecting a giant Butt as a sign of respect for series creator and star Brent Butt.
Brent’s mother learns it is Turn Off Your TV Week and talks Dog River Residents into joining the movement. We all know the folks in Dog River are a few shingles short a roof so you can imagine how badly things go and how hard they find this No TV Week. What is surprising is how original the residents can be when going cold turkey.
Of course, what happens next is original and funny. This is what has made Corner Gas so much fun to watch. I am not going to reveal anything but I especially liked the Hockey Night In Canada in-joke.
Watch for guest star Michael Buble in a quick cameo.
The closer to Corner Gas Episode 100, Turn Off Your TV Week is a bit on the weird side.
Happy birthday, Brent Butt, Gabrielle Miller, Fred Ewanuick, Janet Wright, Eric Peterson, Lorne Cardinal, Tara Spencer-Nairn, Nancy Robertson, and everybody else in Dog River.
This episode is available on the Season 6 Corner Gas DVD set.
