British stand-up comic Russell Brand is in New-York City for this Comedy Central show and stand-up comedy DVD. Brand will remind many of the big hair bands of the mid-eighties and his inordinate amount of female fans is an oddity in stand-up comedy. Brand, perhaps best known for his role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, gives a good show that crosses the pond very well but does not cross the age barrier very well in the first half of this show. Overall though, this is a good performance, probably better if you are already a fan.
Brand hosted the MTV Video Music Awards in 2008 and the first half of this stand-up comedy special is about that experience. If you are not familiar with Scoop Doggy Poop, a lot of the jokes will fly way above your head. Russell Brand then goes a bit on receiving death threats that is so long it makes people regret sending the threat in the first place.
Next on Russell Brand In New York City is a bit about his experiences related to appearing in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. This makes for a very good if a bit overly explained bit about horseback riding. The next stand-up bit about Brand trying to surf is very funny, so is the “Mac” bit. The closer is also excellent and original.
The comic does answer one very important existential question: How long do you fake interest after she tells you she has a boyfriend? To get the answer, you’ll have to watch this stand-up comedy DVD
