Gabriel "Picachu" Iglesias is young Latino comic who almost works perfectly clean. He comes across as a very likeable guy with a fairly gentle sense of humor that includes a few Spanish expressions here and there. He has many strong points including the ability to tell a story, set up characters, and, most of all, a great ability to change his voice to create new characters. This is a good independent comedy CD.
Iglesias is basically an autobiographical and cultural differences comic. The first three real tracks on this funny CD (an Intro does not count) are basically the continuing story of his adventures with another stand-up comic friend of his who has a tendency to pull practical jokes at even the worst of moments. His ability to do white, Black, and Latino characters are the basis of an original funny bit about going to the mall.
The most interesting track on Picachu . . .I See You is an accident. Gabriel Iglesias starts off his bit on how McDonalds commercials are offensive to Latinos when he is interrupted by a cell phone. He does not go ballistic but does explain he will have to start the bit over. Unable to do so because he keeps laughing, he improvises and throws in a few bits that were probably not meant to go on this stand-up comedy CD. His ability to turn this situation to his advantage is to his credit and makes for a very funny couple of tracks.
He finally gets to the McDonald's commercial bit which is good observational comedy before the strong closer Nice Guy / Pendejo about his adventures helping a girl move on their first date. The bonus track is his set on The Tonight Show.
Aside from my usual annoyance with sound levels that vary way too much, this is a pretty good comedy CD by a stand-up who will be around for a while and will definitely become well-known.
