I do not understand the programming of the Roast of Flavor Flav and Roast of Bob Saget in May: it is not turkey season. Aside from being insulted by a basically B-list of stand-up comics and other questionably talented people like Brigitte Neilsen for Flavor Flav and Norm MacDonald for Bob Saget. These roasts air May 12th and 19th 2009 at 10 P.M. on The Comedy Network
Flavor Flav is a so-called music artist who wears a giant watch as a pendant perhaps because he cannot keep time when he sings or whatever it is he does. Why anyone would want to roast this guy is beyond me but there you go. Stand-up comics who probably signed a Comedy Central development deal and now have to live up to their contract are some of the roasters. These include Greg Giraldo, Patton Oswalt, Lisa Lampanelli, and Jeff Ross.
The strangest moments on this roast are Carrot Top –who is not aging gracefully—and when Flav opens his mouth.
Airing a week later, The Roast of Bob Saget is a bit better. Of course, jokes are made about the show that killed Friday night as a TV night, Full House, the Olsen twins, and, of course America’s Funniest Home Videos. Gilbert Gottfried steals the show –granted, not much of a feat. Jim Norton and, for a change, Jeffrey Ross also have a few funny insults.
Lewis Black and Don Rickles show up on video. You have to wonder what Rickles did wrong to have to say something about Saget. Norm MacDonald is his usual atrocious self.
These are not the best Comedy Central Roasts around but both are a nice way to kill a Tuesday evening if it is raining out. You can watch Flavor Flav Roast May 12th and Bob Saget May 19th at 10 P.M. both on The Comedy Network.
