Hotbox, Tuesdays at 10 on The Comedy Network starting June 2nd 2009, is a half-hour sketch and animated comedy show. Not being a fan of this kind of stuff, I was rather surprised by how much I enjoyed Hotbox. The problem with most sketch comedy is the skits last too long and are not particularly funny to begin with. This is not a problem here.
Hotbox features recurring sketches, animated bits including Stick Figure Animation Theatre and a salute to computer games from the 51/4 disc 8088 era, fake commercials, movie trailer spoofs, and even a few fake websites.
The best thing about Hotbox is it features not only a very wide variety of comedy skits but as wide a variety of talent. This means nobody here is out of her or his element. It also allows the show to have a scattershot approach so there’s bound to be a personal favorite somewhere in each show (and a skit you really hate of course).
If you enjoy the kind of stuff you find on YouTube, you should enjoy Hotbox and its low budget looks.
