Roasting Joan Rivers is dangerous. The lady has had so much plastic surgery the slightest flame will melt her. This roast is one of the better ones. The guest roasters are better than usual, they have better material, and Joan Rivers is a good target. The Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers airs Saturday September 12th at 10 P.M. on The Comedy Network. This is one celebrity roast you are going to enjoy.
Host Kathy Griffin does an excellent job of setting the tone for the evening with an introduction that is funny, dirty, and manages to pay homage to Joan Rivers. Rivers makes a great entrance, something few Comedy Central roasteds have managed to do.
Greg Giraldo is the first roaster and has some great zingers for everybody, especially Joan Rivers. Some guy named Mario Cantone is next. He does a very good imitation of la Rivers.
Tom Arnold is absolutely dreadful and a waste of time. To Arnold’s credit he is not as bad as Donald Trump’s video. Jeffrey Ross is actually funny which is a first for him on a Comedy Central Roast.
Carl Reiner, the only person on stage older than Rivers, is decent enough for a 2000 Year Old Man. Melissa Rivers proves to be funnier than some other roasters on the dais. Brad Garrett of Everybody Loves Raymond and Til Death is decent enough.
Howard Stern’s Robin Quivers is next. Oh well. She is followed by unknown but pretty decent Whitney Cummings.
Gilbert Gottfried is absolutely great, delivering a great homage to Joan Rivers and to her vagina.
Rivers gets to answer back. She has had so much plastic surgery you can’t see her lips move.
