The Pee Wee Herman Show Live on Broadway is exactly that: a ninety-minute liver version of Pee Wee's Playhouse which itself was inspired by the original 1981 stage show (also an HBO special). Fans of the TV version will immediately find themselves transported back to 1986 and their childhood. The Pee Wee Herman Show Live on Broadway airs Saturday July 7th at 9 pm on The Comedy Network.
The show features the usual characters and prop-characters like Chairry, Miss Yvonne, Cowboy Curtis, the King of Cartoons, Bear, Mailman Mike, Globey, as well as a couple of new characters like Sham-Wow.
The show also includes a cartoon, a short film about manners, and a story.
The audience is more than willing to go along with the show and it is hard to not enjoy the show's energy at home.
The one weak point for some might be that there is no rhyme or reason to The Pee Wee Herman Sow Live on Broadway. There is sort of a plot about rewiring the house for computers and the house inhabitants revolting against that but it is very, very quickly forgotten.
Also on The Comedy Network's Saturday Night Stand-up in July are Jim Gaffigan Beyond the Pale on July 14th, 2012's Hannibal Buress Animal Furnace on July 21st, and Steve Byrne The Byrne Identity on July 28th. All shows at 9 pm.
