Todd Barry and Friends is one of the “Off Just For Laughs” shows offered as part of the 2013 comedy festival. It was held at the Katacombes, best described by Barry himself as a Goth club. It is a very nice Goth club and a good comedy venue.
Barry was his usual understated self, even when he went after a couple of yakkers in the audience. His is a style you either go for or not. I do, and after the sound guy figured out what was going on and fixed the volume, so did the crowd.
Guests included Greg Fitzsimmon, also an understated comic. He did okay but I am not sure opening with another low-key comic was that good an idea as it did not serve Fitzsimmons that well.
Saturday Night Live writer Michael Che was excellent. He is a different kind of comic but not high energy enough to jar. He is someone I would love to see again.
Andy Kindler sucked, sucked more, commented on sucking, and continued sucking.
