Season 5 of Hot In Cleveland will best be remembered for the live and the animated episodes. The season itself is still pretty solid though there are a couple more weak episodes than in the past. The story ideas are getting a bit thin. One episode even has Rob Schneider, the modern Ted McGinley. This sitcom DVD set features 24 episodes on 3 discs.
The season opens with Victoria's husband having escaped prison and missing. Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!) is the detective keeping an eye on the girls. Other story lines include Victoria's movie premiere and her attempt to get an Academy Award nomination, Melanie getting a TV land length brain tumor, and a new job for Elka.
The live show is really fun to watch though it would be nice to know why a couple of the actresses got the giggles in the last scene with Trebek. The animated episode will get movie buffs playing find that reference. Also fun is the episode where Joy and Melanie compete to be Victoria's date at the Oscars and the follow-up where Elka pulls a Chris Christie at election time.
There are plenty of guest stars in season five of Hot in Cleveland. They include Dave Foley, Ken Jeong (Community), Cedric the Entertainer, Alex Trebek, a very pregnant Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kirstie Alley, Jason Priestly, and the always dreadful Rob Schneider.
There are no special features for Hot In Cleveland Season 5. There is also no booklet with episode information: how annoying.
