Well, there's something strange in the neighborhood and you're gonna call Ghostbusters 2 DVD. This sequel to the very successful and funny horror comedy Ghostbusters is not as good, as tight, or as funny as the original but it is still a fun little comedy DVD (where else are you going to hear lines like "The bathtub was trying to eat Oscar"?).

Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver are back in a story set 5 years after the original. The Ghostbusters have pretty much gone bust, have restraining orders against them from the city of New York, and the guys are all trying to make a living somehow. Just when things appear to be really bleak, weird stuff and slimy stuff starts appearing again all over NYC and the Ghostbusters are back in business.

The Ghostbusters 2 DVD comes with 2 episodes from the Saturday cartoon classic The Real Ghostbusters as an extra feature.

The movie opens with Sigourney Weaver pushing a stroller down the street. It gets away from her and starts navigating the streets of Manhattan. Meanwhile, a painting of some former Carpathian evil dude, Vigo, comes to life at a New York museum and takes over the curator who happens to have the hots for Sigourney Weaver (and who doesn't?) and the curator tires to get her baby so Vigo can come back to life.

Add to this a river of psychokinetic slime running under the city using the old pneumatic rail tunnels and you got the makings of Ghostbusters 2. The movie also tries to repeat the Peter Venkman (Murray) and Dana (Weaver) love interest by starting the movie with them having split up and Dana being married and divorced. That is a bit of a cheap trick. The love scene between Rick Moranis and Annie Potts, however, is really funny.

The main gist of Ghostbusters 2 is the evil slime is caused by New Yorkers being mean to each other. When the Ghostbusters tell the mayor the solution is the people of New York have to be nice to each other, his reaction is priceless, "Being miserable and treating other people like dirt is every New-Yorker's God-give right!"

The special effects in Ghostbusters 2 can be a bit Plan 9 From Outer Space. This is especially true in the scene where Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis are swept into the underground river of slime. This from the people at Industrial Light And Magic.

The scene where a lady steps into some slime and her fur coat comes alive would be a good commercial for PETA. An in-joke in this movie is when people come screaming out of Cannibal Girls, a movie starring Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin. This is an actual Ivan Reitman film.

Ghostbusters 2 does a great job at entertaining the viewer. Writers Aykroyd and Ramis kept the perfect balance between comedy and horror that made the original movie so fun to watch. Check the credits for who was the bathtub trainer and who was the bathtub wrangler. Look for Brian Doyle Murray as the Bellevue doctor in the next scene when the gang, including Peter Venkman, get put away. Cheech Marin is uncredited as a dock supervisor who sees the Titanic arrive.

The new version of the Ray Parker jr. theme song by Run DMC is simply atrocious
