Looney Tunes Golden Collection
Volume 1
Warner Brothers 2003
4 DVDs

Sometimes a studio not only gets it right and does it right but goes beyond the call. Then again, did Warner Brothers really have a choice with Looney Tunes the Golden Collection? Imagine the outcry is Warner Brothers has cheaped out on the millions of fans of Bugs Bunny, Tweety Bird, Sylvester Cat, Speedy Gonzales, Roadrunner, Wile E. Coyote et al.

Looney Tunes, the first anthology volume of the best of animation from the Warner Brothers studios (who really know a funny cartoon when they see one) is a must have for anyone who watched Saturday morning cartoons when they were a kid, watched the Bugs Bunny Roadrunner Hour and remember the Looney tunes cartoons from before they were cut for overly sensitive, politically parents (those same parents who grew up on them and were none worse for wear and those morons who object to Elmer Fudd because he supposedly makes fun of people with a speech impediment) and extra commercials plugging sugar disguised as cereal.

Looney Tunes the Golden Collection is also available as 2 separate 2-DVD sets called the Premiere Collection. It's the same thing, the same set of funny cartoons. What is great about the Golden Edition is the cartoons were lovingly restored. No dust, no glitches, no weird things on the picture, the colors are crisp, the sound perfect. Warner Brothers got it right.

The extra features are real extra features and not some fancied up garbage they had in the vaults. You can watch some cartoons with only the musical track on (a great experience), look at pencil sketches, get a documentary on the Termite Terrace, get running commentary by people like Stan Freberg, Michael Barrier and Greg Ford (Looney Tunes experts), some "lost cartoons". It is here you learn that studios "cast" a funny cartoon pretty much like they do movies with real people and everything is based on who works best with who.

Looney Tunes Golden Collection is just an amazing package with all your favorites like Bugs Bunny, the star, Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck, Foghorn Leghorn (who with Speedy Gonzales gets the short end of the stick here), Wile E Coyote and Roadrunner (who should get their own DVD anthology) and Marvin the Martian (Well, back to the old drawing board)

DVD one of Looney Tunes Golden Collection is all Bugs Bunny all the time with classics such as Rabbit Seasoning, What's Up Doc? And the classic Rabbit of Seville.. DVD Two is Daffy Duck and Porky, including the brilliant Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2 century and The Scarlet Pumpernickel.

DVD three is something called Looney Tunes All Stars with my personal favorite Baton Bunny (where Bugs Bunny brings the opera house down) and lots of Tweety and Sylvester cartoons. Pepe Le Pew also makes an appearance as well as the sheep and dog in Don't Give Up The Sheep.

DVD four is more Looney Tunes All Stars with Speedy Gonzales, Foghorn Leghorn (not in his really funny cartoon appearances).

Do not, however, make the mistake of getting other, earlier Warner Brothers Looney Tunes DVDs like Stranger Than Fiction and Reality Check. Those are the new, mass-produced, chain assembly, computer generated, generic, badly voiced and scored, lets milk these suckers dry Looney Tunes not funny cartoons.

The second 4 DVD set of the Looney Tunes DVD anthology of funny
