Is it because the wait for Looney Tunes DVDs was so long and Warner Brothers, home of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, Wile E Coyote and Road Runner did such an excellent job with Golden Collection Volume 1, a brilliant anthology of funny cartoons, that Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 2 is a bit of a letdown? Let's be clear here, this 4 DVD set is great and features classic Bugs Bunny cartoons like What's Opera Doc and One Froggy Evening. However, there is something a little off about this collection of Warner Studios cartoons when compared to the first offering.
Perhaps it is because Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 2 looks like not as much attention was paid to picture quality: There are at least a couple of funny cartoons per DVD that appear a bit dusty (flecks and stuff on the picture). Perhaps it is because there are fewer great Looney Tunes classics on this second 4 dvd set of funny cartoons.
Granted, What's Opera Doc? One Froggy Evening are must haves. So are rarerities like The Big Snooze (a very weird psychedelic Elmer Fudd, Bugs Bunny cartoon and perhaps the first where Bugs and Elmer recognize publicly they realize they are characters under contract with Mr. Warner). There are, however, some cartoons that have been available for a long time on even the most budget vhs or dvd, such as Corny Concerto.
At the same time, the presentation of these great Looney Tunes classic cartoons is a bit more logical Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume Two. You basically get a complete dvd of Bugs Bunny cartoons, a complete dvd of Tweety and Sylvester, a complete cartoon DVD of Wile E Coyote and Road Runner funny cartoons -and there's nothing quite like the special feature attached to some Wile E Coyote Road Runner cartoons that allows you to watch with only the music or the sound effects. Dvd four would feel like filler was it not for being the dvd that contains both One Froggy Evening and What's Opera Doc?
Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume Two is great but not as great as Volume One overall
