Team America: Thunderbirds, Joe 90, Captain Scarlet, Supercar and Fireball XL5 meet South Park in this adult oriented and adult material puppet comedy. Basically, the puppets are out to save the world from Kim Jong Il and Alec Baldwin and other Hollywood members of FAG (the film actor's guild). The usual four letter, penile, vomit, and poop humor Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and gang are famous for is of course present. The acting is, of course, wooden as with most summer blockbusters the movie parodies.
This is a funny movie in a crude and rude way. It is hard to say if the jingoistic pro-America humor is something every viewer will get (it is tongue in cheek, guys) or if the theme song will not soon become the Republican party theme for the next election (these are after all the same people who co-opted Springsteen's Born In The USA without quite understanding it.
Scenes of Team America going around the world trying to capture terrorists and wiping out a few national and cultural symbols (the Eiffel Tower, the Sphinx, a pyramid or two and so on) while they are at it can play both ways. The tunes are fun, especially Kim Jong Il's great tune I'm So Ronery. This movie skewers Hollywood liberals en masse, especially Alec Baldwin, the sometimes annoying Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins, but could have used the presence of Mel Gibson in there somewhere.
Look for cameos (sort of) by Michael Moore, Helen Hunt, Martin Sheen. Also, pay special attention to the very weird scene involving house cats posing as panthers. Team America Uncensored and Unrated is a fun little movie you can watch once and enjoy but becomes tiring at a second viewing. This is a definite rental Dvd and not a buy recommendation.
The extras are a waste of time
