Aside from the fact it is a musical comedy and I long ago lost the necessary willing suspension of disbelief to get into the genre, The 2 Sides of the Bed is a fun relationship comedy now available on DVD from Mongrel Media. Though this is a sequel, something I was not aware of while watching this DVD, it is a fun romantic comedy you can enjoy even if you do not understand Spanish.
The 2 Sides of the Bed is the story of 4 couples who definitely have their ups and downs. Carlos, the guy everyone dismisses, is having an affair with Rafa's girlfriend and Rafa, knowing something is wrong, asks Carlos to help him figure it out. Two of the girls, Marta who is with Javier and Raquel, Pedro's girlfriend, are in love with each other. Javier and Pedro also both have a thing for Carlota. All this of course makes for a lot of confusion as everyone is playing the musical chair version of coupling.
The 2 Sides of the Bed / 2 Lados de la Cama is perhaps a bit long and a bit complicated, especially if you are relying on the subtitles to understand everything, but there are some really original and funny farce moments in this Spanish romantic comedy.
Although the characters do break out in song more than necessary, I have to admit some of the dance numbers are very, very good. The subtitles are easy to read but the translation is sometimes a little wonky in terms of vocabulary or tense. This comedy is a bit messy and convoluted but enjoyable nonetheless.
