There are some comics and stand-up comedy albums I know are just not up my alley.
This is the case for Catalyst For Change by Rick Shapiro. I find it impossible to figure out what Shapiro is up to: delirium or stream of consciousness or absurd and in your face dark comedy? A clue might be his reference to Charles Bukowski early on. If you think Bukowski was a great writer, maybe you will get this comic.
Part of the problem is it is hard to keep up with Rick Shapiro and his often derailing train of thought. He is certainly not the first comic I’ve come across whose comedy is much more performance art and not even close to set-up punchline joke but this time I just don’t get it.
