Old Farts Are Forever by New Yorker cartoonist Leo Lorenz make for a great gag gift for that friend turning 55, 65, or whatever. It is, of course, on our gag gift suggestion page. This is because this is a fun collection of 122 very funny panels about the trials and tribulations of turning old. The price is also quite right.
Lorenz has an eye, or is it trifocals, for the various relationship problems you encounter when you age. He also has a hearing aid for the kind of comments seniors sometimes make. This, combined to the aesthetically pleasing typical New Yorker style make these cartoons very enjoyable.
There are lots of especially funny cartoons here. One of my favorites is the gentleman kneeling to say his evening prayer, “And may we continue to be worthy of consuming a disproportionate share of this planet’s resources.”
Some of the cartoons in Old Farts Are Forever are on the dark side, like the couple playing musical chair, yes, one chair, while death plays the piano.
Some of Lorenz’ gags are visual, others are based on the caption, all are enjoyable and funny.
Seriously, if you know someone having a high-numbered birthday, this makes a great gag gift.
