Comedy Gold - launches August 2nd 2010
Launches August 2nd 2010

The Comedy Gold channel (formerly TV Land Canada) is a great idea and not because CTV sent a small box of chocolates that included a Mary Tyler Marzipan, Bob Raspberry Hart, and Candice Bergamot. The channel launches August 2nd  and will feature a who's who of situation comedy with Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, Red Green, Murphy Brown, and The Kids in the Hall.

Weekday evenings will be a sitcom fan's dream come true: SCTV at 6, The Red Green Show at 7, Mary Tyler Moore at 8, The Bob Newhart Show at 8:30, Newhart at 9, Night Court at 9:30 (starting in September), Murphy Brown at 10, and the increasingly shrill Designing Women with the dreadful Dixie Carter at 10:30

You will really want to tune Comedy Gold August 2nd as it will air the pilot episodes of its evening line-up.

Teens and tweens and those stuck there will enjoy back to back episodes of Full House and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air at 4 and 5 p.m. respectively.

Other Comedy Gold sitcoms include Bizarre with John Byner and Super Dave Osborne weekdays at 9 a.m. The Andy Griffith Show at 10 a.m. The Phil Silvers Show at 10:30 a.m.

Check It Out with Don Adams will be Saturdays and Sundays at 6 p.m. This Canadian made situation comedy blew chunks. TV fans might want to tune in just to see how bad Canadian sitcoms used to be

The Kids in the Hall will air weekends at 7 p.m.

Not everything on the Comedy Gold channel will be situation comedy. Fantasy Island will air Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m. I know a few people who will be there for Hart to Hart Saturdays and Sundays at 5 p.m.

I am sure glad I already subscribe to Comedy Gold ... I think.
