BUY Mom's Bathtub Reader (cover)
Portable Press 2004

Mom's Bathtub Reader is another book in the very popular Uncle John's Bathroom Reader series. A perfect Mother's Day gift or Christmas gift, Mom's Bathtub Reader is in the tradition of all of the very funny and very interesting Uncle John's Bathroom Reader books. A fun book to give and receive, Mom's Bathtub Reader is a collection of funny stories and funny factoids having to do with Mom, motherhood, and important and not-so important women in history.

A perfect read for a long plane ride, Mom's Bathtub Reader is a collection of one to three-page articles and anecdotes. The sections in the book include Cinema-Ma, Folklore and Legends, the Mamas and the Music, Memorable Mothers (including the story of Candy Lightner, the woman behind MADD), Mommy Fairplay, Mom's Gone Wild, Mother Miscellany, Mother Necessity and Mythological Mums. There are many funny stories in this book and also quite a few very interesting, geez I didn't know that moments such as Mom Takes a Dive, the story of Esther Williams and Mom's Sensational Senses about mothers and ESP.

There are many important women mentioned in this collection of funny articles and interesting factoids, including Goldie Hawn, Ingrid Bergman, Judy Garland, Janet Leigh, Debbie Reynolds, Vanessa Redgrave, and Patty Duke, all of whom are screen mom's who are also mothers of other famous actors.

Mom's Bathtub Reader is also interested in other forms of motherhood such as mothers of the animal kingdom and funny jokes about Mom such as this classic Paula Poundstone joke on p. 101 in Mom is a Stand-Up Gal:

" My Mom told us how she learned to swim. Someone took her out in the lake and threw her off the boat. That's how she learned how to swim. I said, ‘Mom, they weren't trying to teach you how to swim.' "
Paula Poundstone as quoted in Mom's Bathtub Reader

Another great stand-up funny joke is Ellen Degeneres who says:
"My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. She's ninety-seven now and we don't know where the hell she is."
Ellen DeGeneres as quoted in Mom's Bathtub Reader

As all of the other Uncle John's Bathroom Reader books, Mom's Bathtub Reader is addictive and the kind of book you will want to leave lying around, be it in the bathroom or in the living room. Mom's Bathtub Reader will make a very original and welcome fun birthday gift, funny Christmas gift, or Mother's Day gift.
