To the uninitiated, Dragon Tales is the animated television story of two young kids (the sibling duo of Emmy and Max), who travel to Dragonland by means of a magic dragon scale. While in Dragonland they meet up with four dragons, and have all kinds of adventures.
The DVD "Let's Be Brave" is a compilation of five Dragon Tales episodes (Calling Dr. Zak, The Big Sleepover, Stormy Weather, Sounds Like Trouble, Musical Scales) that deal with situations that could be scary for young kids. Each episode gives a positive message, and encourages children to talk about their fears, encourage and support each other, and work together to overcome obstacles.
Dragon Tales Let's Be Brave is an excellent DVD for kids of different ages - from toddlers to early school grades, and easily holds children's attention; my own certainly enjoyed immensely. Although the story takes place in a fictitious land, Emmy and Max learn good lessons, and all episodes are a good starting point for discussion with children. Dragonland is colourful, fun and non-threatening. The lessons that Emmy and Max learn are always "taken back" to the real world, and the brother and sister will demonstrate that they can transfer what they learned while away on their adventure.
There is a music section as a special feature on the Dragon Tales Let's Be Brave DVD, and children of any age love the three songs included there. The lyrics are positive, and the beat of the music makes you want to get up and dance.
One feature that is frustrating is the Quick Start play feature. Although it is made for little ones to easily access the DVD without having to master the remote control, this feature made it confusing and sometimes difficult to choose a personalized order of play.
Dragon Tales Let's Be Brave is a first-rate DVD for kids and parents too.
