All About Steve
Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper
Directed by Phil Traill
Fox Home Entertainment 2009
99 minutes

Sandra Bullock won a Razzie Award for her performance as yet another fish out of water butterfly yet to emerge from cocoon who snorts when she laughs character in the comedy DVD All About Steve. It is kind of hard to figure out how this quirky character is different from others Bullock has played. Still, All About Steve is a fun little comedy that unfortunately loses its charm and interest halfway through. It was nominated in the worst actress, worst movie, and worst on screen couple for the 2010 Razzies.

Mary Horowitz (Bullock) is a cruciverbalist for the local Sacramento paper. A blind date with Steve goes really, really well, she becomes infatuated, and thus loses her job. Steve, a news cameraman, is not so infatuated. Mary decides to chase poor Steve across the country, not knowing he does not share her feelings. She is encouraged in that by the reporter Steve works with (Thomas Hayden Church).

Part of the comedy in All About Steve comes from Mary Horowitz ‘s expansive vocabulary, part of it comes from Steve, Hartman (the reporter Steve is assigned to), and their producer Angus. Some of it also comes from the “breaking news” Steve and his crew cover, including hurricane LaQuisha.

At first, the Mary Horowitz character is fun but she is one-dimensional so her shtick gets tiring. The supporting characters are not really interesting enough to carry the main character through the movie and after a while All About Steve feels like a series of events glued together. The fun poked at 24-hour news channels is funny but not funny enough.

Sandra Bullock fans will like All About Steve, otherwise it is a decent second rental.
