I have always been a Darryl Lenox fan. His second stand-up comedy MP3 album Blind Ambition is something I have been waiting for for a long time.
To say I am more than impressed would be mild. Lenox delivers wickedly funny self-deprecating stories about himself, a hilarious and laser sharp take on the Canadians he lived with for quite a few years, and some pretty good men vs women material. If you like good stand-up you owe it to yourself to get this comedy MP3. The only caveat is Lenox works blue and though I am not against it I do not think it really works for him or the material.
Blind Ambition is quite elegant in its construction. It opens with stories about Lenox’ eye problems and being in Canada and more than just a Black guy. He segues nicely into some Americans vs Canadians material. It gets somewhat darker when he gets kicked out of the country but it does not stay that way for long.
The second half of this stand-up comedy mp3 album opens with a story about meeting the in-laws for the first time and is mostly relationship material. Here again, Lenox has very funny stuff even if he gets even bluer.
The show closes on a positive note but lacks a little something to really nail the ending.
