Fans of Garrison Keillor’s News From Lake Wobegon segment on Prairie Home Companion will be disappointed with Garrison Keillor’s Comedy Theater More Songs and Sketches From A Prairie Home Companion as there is not a single News From Lake Wobegon story in this collection.
Those who enjoy the annual funny joke show, the funny commercials, and the funny skits will probably enjoy this 3 Garrison Keillor CD set tremendously. Part of the fun in listening to Prairie Home Companion on NPR is the fake commercials Garrison Keillor and his cast of supporting actors indulge in from time to time. Other enjoyable segments are Guy Noir, Private Eye, the funny cowboy stories of Lives Of The Cowboys, and the Tom Keith funny sound effect stories. It’s all there on Comedy Theater.
This is a 3 CD set with a “bonus” best of the joke show segment. The joke show segment itself is great as you get the usual yo mama joke, light bulb joke, guy walks into a bar joke segments. Garrison Keillor also has some of the funny commercials from such imaginary sponsors of the News From Lake Wobegon as Bertha’s Kitty Boutique (only one of those unfortunately), two Beebopareebop Rhubarb Pie skits, a Ketchup Advisory Board skit (which now is kind of getting tired but is fresh on Comedy Theater), and a whole variety of funny skits like This Man, This Woman, Taking a Chance on Love, Greenwich Village Days, a very good Funny Celebrities segment for New Year’s Eve, Fred Farrell’s Animal Calls, and other funny bits too.
Although there is no News From Lake Wobegon segment on Comedy Theater, the great advantage of buying this instead of listening to the latest weekly show with Garrison Keillor is there are no politics on this cd aside from one semi-funny sketch about Newt and Keillor doesn’t get bitchy about the state of affairs in his country. You basically get the best of Prairie Home Companion, funny skits like How I Met George Gershwin, Little House in the Desert, Lutherans On-Line, and so on.
