If you do not mind a comic who says n!gger every seventh word and uses a variation of trucker and mothertrucker every tenth word, you might appreciate the stand-up comedy of Katt Williams. This quote from a bit about a runner should suffice: “If you run for a mothertruckin’ living and you lose both your mothertruckin legs you should be allowed to sit this mothertrucker out”.
Otherwise, the Katt Williams stand-up comedy CD set Katt Box, a three disc collection of his 2006, 2007, and 2008 HBO comedy specials is not for you. The discs in this collection are The Pimp Chronicles (2006), American Hustle (2007), and It’s Pimpin’ Pimpin’ (2008). Of the three, It’s Pimpin Pimpin is the strongest stand-up comedy CD of the bunch.
Katt Williams is not a profound comic and he often repeats his importance of self-esteem and importance of ignoring those who want to get in your way messages. On a 3 CD set these become variations on a theme that I do not find particularly interesting. The stand-up also repeats both the mothertruckin’ setup and the mothertruckin’ punchline a lot.
On It’s Pimpin Pimpin, the best of the three stand-up comedy CD here, the comic stretches a bit and does a pretty good and still fairly undated bit of pre-Obama political comedy. The next bit, on drugs advertised on TV starts out generic but Williams segues into a very good bit about putting his kid on Ritalin and mothertruckin cloning of mothertruckers.
The best bit on It’s Pimpin Pimpin is Laugh First, a good routine about not taking life seriously. Other bits are about having people around you who support you, Have Your Team Together, and respecting the woman who is with you, Franshise Player.
Scared of Rope is a middling bit on how racism is still very present in America where Williams tries to justify his repeated use of n!gger. It picks up with the story about the Flavor Flav Roast. The Vaporizer is a decent weed routine.
The closing bit on Katt Williams It’s Pimpin Pimpin is a not bad bit on getting a motorcycle. This one really relies on visuals to really work so pretty much fails on CD.
The Katt Box is really for fans and they probably have the stand-up comedy DVDs already.
