Feelin’ Kinda Patton is a solid independent stand-up comedy CD by stand-up comedian Patton Oswalt.

It is impossible to pigeonhole Oswalt as a relationship comic or observational comic or anything like that as he does funny jokes about everything under the sun and a few things on the dark side of the moon. The segue may not be his favorite comedic tool -though he definitely can segue brilliantly when he feels like it– yet at the same time his jumps in logic from A Man Shaves His Balls to Facts About Midgets and other tracks do not in any way jar the audience or the listener.

Patton Oswalt has one of the funniest takes on the war in Iraq and his comment that the country is being run by a bunch of bad, alcoholic dads is absolutely vicious but extremely funny. It is in this section of Feelin’ Kinda Patton that Oswalt does segue extremely well from the previous two topics to When You Have a Humvee to America being the retarded trust fund kid of the world and the apocalypse.

Feelin’ Kinda Patton, Patton Oswalt’s independent release comedy CD, is one wild and very funny ride. Even if, like me, you have a comedy CD collection that is up to some 400 CDs, this comedy CD definitely stands out as being by a comic who is original and whose approach to stand-up comedy is definitely funny and different. Even when he fumbles a joke (such as on The Winning Team –unless he did it on purpose), Oswalt has the ability not only to recover but throw in references to strawberry phosphates and reading Fitzgerald in Collier’s.

Patton is also a very deceptive comic in that his stand-up comedy seems to be stream of consciousness yet there are so many recalls built in that you definitely know this is one tight set. An example is the many jokes about alcohol that pop up from time to time.

You also have to wonder how true is his set-up on Toronto Open Mic where he says he is going to repeat a surrealistic set by a heroin addict he heard at Yuk Yuk’s because in some ways the leaps of logic are definitely Oswalt’s kind of thing. This is not the only track about comedy itself on Feelin’ Kind Patton by Patton Oswalt. There are a few other bits such as A Brief History of Shitty Comedy about the comedy boom in the eighties.

Perhaps the best sign of a great comedy CD is whether or not you will repeat a couple of the jokes to your friends. On Feelin’ Kinda Patton, I doubt a listener who still has a record player will not try to repeat the bit about Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Feelin’ Kinda Patton by Patton Oswalt is a solid independent comedy CD release. Not something for those new to the genre but definitely a stand-up CD comedy fans are going to appreciate.
