The Good, The Bad, and the Drugly is a Beth Lapides Un-Cabaret production in support of  drugpolicy.org, an organization that works to make drug laws more intelligent. Like all other Un-Cabaret CDs, this is not quite a stand-up comedy CD though it has the line-up and the format. It looks like a duck, it quacks like a duck, but it is not really a duck. If you were smoking, you might think it is a platypus.

This CD is more a series of performances by various funny people and stand-up comics than a comedy CD. Comics like Laura Kightlinger, Patton Oswalt (a personal fave) and David Cross (another great stand-up comic) share the stage with funny people like Bob Odenkirk, Andy Dick (oh well), and Taylor Negron (The Flintstones and The Hughleys) tell various funny drug related stories. Some of these stories are very funny, others pretty good, and a couple, like Andy Dick singing Blotto in the Grotto, probably sound better if you are under the influence.

There is something funny for every taste on this comedy CD of sorts. Personal favorites on The Good, the Bad, and the Drugly are, not in order, Turkey by David Cross -who sounds very different from his stand-up persona, Now I Know What The Kids Are Talking About by Julia Sweeney, and the archival addition of Dangerous Drugs by Lenny Bruce though the sound is a bit too high-pitched. However, I find the short musical (sort of) clips used as segues annoying.

The Good, the Bad, and the Drugly by Un-Cabaret is a lot of fun even if sometimes uneven. This makes a good gift for the stoner in your life and for someone who likes comedy and is willing to explore past the usual stand-up format. The sound quality is pretty good over although host Beth Lapides is sitting too close to the stage so you hear her very distinctive laugh a few times and the Mind Over Matter track by Rick Overton might crack your tweeter.
