The Three Stooges Collection Volume 7 1952-54
Larry, Moe, Shemp, Emil Sitka
22 shorts 2 DVD
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment 2009

Nobody boinks like the Three Stooges. You either love Three Stooges comedy or you do not. It really is that simple. Then there is the question of what are good shorts and much lesser shorts. The Three Stooges Collection Volume 7 1952-54 2 DVD set features 22 comedy shorts including 2 3-D versions. Two pairs of the cheap red – green cardboard glasses are included in this Three Stooges DVD set. These are mostly lesser shorts at the end of the Stooges’ run. The prints used here are poi-fect.

For Three Stooges fans, the highlight of this 2 DVD set certainly has to be the 2 3-D shorts, Spooks and Pardon My Backfire. This being Columbia Studios and the near the end of the Stooges’ run, the money was not there for the effects to really work. Though you sort of do get the 3-D in these two shorts, there is a blur around the characters and objects that makes these shorts very hard to watch. The standard version of both these shorts is quite crisp.

Not being a real 3 Stooges fan, the shorts in Volume Seven are only funny enough. This  is mostly slapstick and visual gag comedy the threesome had done many times before. Still, there are funny gags here and there, especially the wire gag in Pardon My Backfire and the syrup bit in A Missed Fortune.

The 22 shorts in The Three Stooges Collection Volume 7 1952-54 are DVD 1: A Missed Fortune, Listen Judge, Corny Casanova, He Cooked His Goose, Gents in a Jam, Three Dark Horses, Cuckoo on a Choo Choo (all 1952), Up in Daisy’s Penthouse, Booty and the Beast, Loose Loot, Tricky Dicks (1953)

DVD 2 features the 3-D and normal Spooks and Pardon My Backfire, Rip, Sew. And Stitch, Bubble Trouble, Goof on the Roof (1953) Income Tax Sappy, Musty Musketeers, Pals and Gals, Knutzy Knights, Shot in the Frontier, and Scotched in Scotland (1954).

The box says these shorts are in 1:85:1 anamorphic widescreen and fullscreen but does not indicate which is which.
