The Three Stooges
Sean Hayes, Chris Diamantopoulos, Will Sasso
Directed by the Farelly Brothers
Fox Home Entertainment 2012

The Three Stooges 2012 movie is very faithful to the spirit and tone of the original shorts. If you are a fan of the Stooges you are certainly going to enjoy this comedy. Those new to the slapstick trio will find this to be a very entertaining, lightweight movie. At 91 minutes, The Three Stooges is just the right length for what it wants to do.

The Three Stooges opens with the boys being dropped off an an orphanage where they grow up. Stuff happens and years later the orphanage closes. In an obvious nod to forties comedies The Three Stooges need to find 830,000 dollars to save the orphanage and the orphans. This sets up a series of situations where mayhem occurs. Toss in a murder plot and a case of mistaken identity and you got yourself a very funny movie.

There are quite a few famous actors in supporting roles including Jane Lynch, the entire Jersey Shore cast, Sofia Vegara, and Larry David as Sister Mary Mengele.

Of course, there is some violence in this comedy. It is The Three Stooges. It is quite clear it is all in good fun though and the Farelly brothers even make a point of explaining that at the end of the movie by showing off the rubber hammers used in the movie as well as how the eye poke is done.: It just goes to show how stupid society has become.
