Flight of the Conchords Season One

I know some long-time comedy fans will find this blasphemous but Flight of the Conchords are better and funnier than The Smother Brothers. For one thing Jemaine does not always interrupt Bret and hog the limelight. I also find their funny songs funnier.

The Comedy Network opens the Flight of the Conchords TV show with a double airing of their HBO One Night Stand Saturday October 18th and Tuesday October 21st 2008 at 10:00 P.M. Beginning October 28th the Flight of the Conchords TV show will air Tuesdays at 10:30 right after season 2B of The Sarah Silverman Program.

Flight of the Conchords One-Night Stand is a half hour special featuring Bret and Jermaine doing some of the best known funny songs like the funny love song about the couple in the park, and a great comic take on Puff called Albee the Racist Dragon. A few of the tunes in the show are also on The Flight of the Conchords CD like Boom, Think About It, the gangsta rap Hiphopopotamus, and that great love song Business Time.

Season One of the Flight of the Conchords TV show, starting October 28th  and running for 12 episodes, is about Bret and Jemaine trying to make it as a singing duo in the United States. This, of course, allows them to break into a song video at the drop of a hat or whenever things get weird. Stand-up comic Arj Barker plays one of their friends. Other comics who show up include Demetri Martin, landlord Eugene Mirman, and Todd Barry.

The show is certainly different from most situation comedy shows on TV, cable or not. Part of it is Jemaine’s deadpan style and part of it is the bizarre world the New Zealand boys operate in, a world where a guy will try to pawn a birthday cake and a job involves holding up a sign with an arrow.

If you like funny songs and odd characters the Flight of the Conchords Season One is what you are looking for
