Season 2 of HBO’s Flight of the Conchords picks up pretty much where season 1 of this sitcom ended: Bret and Jemaine are still a small-time band struggling to make ends meet in New York City. Their misadventures make up the 10 episodes of this Flight of the Conchords two DVD set. If you like weird and deadpan humor and musical comedy, you are going to enjoy this HBO comedy

This season opens with the Conchords firing their manager (Rhys Darby). They eventually discover they do sort of kind of need one after a jingle incident. Look for comic Greg Proops in a cameo.

A personal favorite is episode 3 where Bret starts up his own gang which leads to a great Sharks vs Jets West Side Story bit. This makes up for the rather weak fourth and fifth episodes of Flight of the Conchords Season Two.

The second DVD in the Flight of the Conchords Bork to Folk aka Season 2 features 4 episodes and the special features.  The special features are a documentary on The Conchords doing various radio morning shows, deleted scenes, outtakes, Dave’s Pawn Shop Commercials, and New Zealand Consulate Meetings with Murray and Greg.

A decent enough episode 7 has the band becoming a Simon and Garfunkel cover band and meeting New Zealand’s Prime Minister. Look for Patton Oswald as Elton John and Art Garfunkel as Art Garfunkel. The penultimate show has a really good musical conversation between Bret and Jemaine. Season two of this HBO comedy ends rather dramatically and Conchords the Broadway Musical.

Flight of the Conchords has solid production values, especially for the musical numbers. The show is also quite well shot which helps support some of the visual jokes. The writing is way above par for this kind of idiosyncratic show.

The special features on are a documentary on The Conchords doing various radio morning shows, deleted scenes, outtakes, Dave’s Pawn Shop Commercials, and New Zealand Consulate Meetings with Murray and Greg.
