Ian Edwards’ 100% Half-Assed is the first stand-up comedy album released on Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco label.

It was a very good choice. Edwards is a solid stand-up comic whose material appeals to a wide adult audience.

Edwards is obviously a bit rattled early on in the show. This explains the profusion of “know what I mean?” or “know what I am sayin?” in the first quarter of the show. It doesn’t really get in the way of the material but it is a good thing he settles down after a while. After that, you can appreciate how smooth this guy is and how cleverly he sets up callbacks and how they appear out of the blue.

Ian Edwards covers a lot of ground during his show. He opens with a bit about being with a woman but looking at others, how getting someone pregnant by accident is the same process as getting someone pregnant on purpose, a sleepwalking friend, a brilliant bit on Groupons and Bruce Lee and how Jewish holidays sound like the names of Black girls, one on getting a crime credit card, the surfer who got an arm bitten off, and how mixed race children always turn out looking good.

There are here and there a couple of recycled comedy chestnuts. One is a variation on the story of the guy whose doctor tells him to walk a mile every day and a month later calls his doctor to tell him he is 30 miles away from his home.

100% Half-Assed by Ian Edwards is 100% enjoyable.
