Doug Stanhope is an excellent comic who has something intelligent and challenging to say. His 2013 stand-up comedy CD, DVD, or MP3 album is simply brilliant and a must.

Stanhope challenges his audience not only by making them cringe a bit but mostly with the ideas he challenging his audience with. I like comedians who make me think and laugh and Stanhope most certainly does that in almost perfect balance. Beer Hall Putsch is certainly going to be on our top 10  stand-up comedy for 2013 and a must for any intelligent fan.

One of the great moments of Beer Hall Putsch is Farewell ,Mother where the comic recounts his mother’s suicide, “Don’t worry, this is a fun story.”, his disappointment with the whole Occupy movement and its lack of vision, organization, and originality.

Another excellent routine on this comedy CD  is the eighteen-minute or so Triage the Charity – 10K Fun Run For Nothing – and 60 Inches of AIDS on Any Given Sunday routine. It challenges the hypocrisy of corporate sponsored Cancer awareness products, the very little people do when they collect a few bucks to take part in a fun run, and how much is symbolism and not substance.

On a somewhat milder note, an early bit is a story about meeting ninety-something boxing champ Raging Bull Jake LaMotta and going to see him in the play he and his wife are performing at the local community center. That one is just funny with no strings attached.

Doug Stanhope Beer Hall Putsch is certainly going to be on our top 10  stand-up comedy for 2013 and a must for any intelligent fan.
