Now available on Blu-ray, Cheaper by the Dozen 2 is a variation on the old poor summer camp versus rich summer camp comedy. I am not convinced this Steve Martin comedy remake needed a sequel but there is one. This is a fun enough movie but not worth upgrading to Blu-ray for.
Seeing his family growing up and away from the family home, Tom Baker (Steve Martin) convinces everyone to go for one last family vacation at a run down cottage on Lake Winnetka. There, Tom’s nemesis Jimmy Murtaugh (Eugene Levy) now owns most of the lake and a castle. The Bakers and Murtaughs end up competing against each other in a series of events.
Of course, the kids end up teaching the adults a lesson of some kind. Some of the Baker and Murtaugh kids are in love with each other.
This movie is a series of short comic mayhem scenes that may not be particularly original but are funny enough such as Tom fixing the toilet only to create more plumbing problems. Everything works but this is still a minor comedy.
Special features on Cheaper by the Dozen 2 Blu-ray include director’s commentary track, casting session, camp chaos, a comedic trio, and trailers
