It’s not milk in that pitcher. That is the kind of comedy Steve Sabo does. What is not on the cover is how smart this adult audience comedy sometimes is. If it was not for the fact the sound really should have been normalized (Sabo is a rather loud comic whose voice level fluctuates quite a bit so you find yourself adjusting the volume frequently) A Mouthful of Sea-Monkeys would be a solid stand-up comedy CD. As is, it is pretty good.

A Mouthful of Sea-Monkeys is Steve Sabo ‘s third comedy CD. I appreciate comics like Sabo who work blue because here the language is not a crutch to hide deficient material. That I prefer the long story form to the one-liner when it comes to stand-up is another reason I like this release as Sabo knows how to tell a story.

Steve Sabo also has a talent for one-liners such as the bit about there not being the female equivalent of Hairy Virgin like Saggy Balls. He also has a good bit on the guy who named animal groups like murder of crows (I would have gone for a posse of pussy)

Not everything on this stand-up CD his highbrow humor; a crusty sock is a crusty sock and a titty bar story is a titty bar story –although Sabo’s is funny and original.

There are a lot of good moments on A Mouthful of Sea-Monkeys such as the much too short routine on how Sabo’s friends started a death pool on him. Being a fan of the long form of stand-up comedy, I found there were quite a few bits here that could have been expanded a bit; even the fairly banal premise of a GPS is promising in Sabo’s hands.

A weakness to this independent release stand-up comedy CD is the track list on the liner is unreadable.

In the it was really nice of you but you shouldn’t have category: the last three tracks on this Steve Sabo stand-up comedy CD, recorded at a different venue and with much lesser equipment sound like hell. I appreciate a comic trying to give me as much bang for my buck but A Mouthful of Sea-Monkeys was solid enough without these bonus tracks.
