Did You Hear About the Morgans?
Sarah Jessica Parker, Hugh Grant, Sam Elliott, Mary Steenburgen
Directed by Marc Lawrence
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment 2010
Did You Her About the Morgans is a much better romantic comedy DVD than the trailer suggests. This is a city folks have to become country folk comedy but this Marc Lawrence movie with Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant is a lot of fun. Yes, you can predict a few things right off the bat but Did You Hear About the Morgans is still fresh and fun enough to really entertain.
Grant and Parker play Paul and Meryl Morgan. They are separated but Paul would still like to get back together. They witness a murder, are put in the Witness Protection Program after the killer goes after them. These two ubercityfolk end up in cowboy country, Wyoming under the protection of Sam Elliot and Mary Steenburgen. You know there is going to be a scene where either Paul or Meryl is going to end up milking a cow.
Did You Hear About the Morgans is your typical country folk are warm and welcoming if ta tad peculiar comedy. The story and the characters rise above the norm. This is in part because of very good performances from Parker and Hugh Grant as well as the model couple formed by Elliot and Steenburgen.
The killer does find out where the Morgans are hiding but only after they have had time to learn the lessons the movie wants them to learn.
If you’ve seen any romantic comedy, you know what is going to happen to Paul and Meryl’s personal assistants. The fun here is that all this formulaic stuff is done very well and has a couple of newish twists.
This is the kind of romantic comedy DVD that goes over well. It is light, fun to watch, and not particularly demanding attention span wise.
Special features on the Did You Hear About the Morgans DVD include a subtitled commentary track, deleted scenes, and the rest of the usual stuff.
