Puff, Puff, Pass is your basic stupid stoner comedy DVD. Originally released as Easier, Softer Way the movie stars Danny Masterson (from That 70’s Show) and Ronnie Warner (of nothing important) as two dope smoking buddies who get locked out of their apartment, go to a rehab clinic to catch a presentation of The Shawshank Redemption, and get kicked out of rehab.  Like any other pot based comedy, Puff, Puff, Pass is pretty mindless fare.

Both Danny Masterson and Ronnie Warner are pretty decent as Larry and Rico dope head buddies. They certainly do not reinvent the role and pretty much stick to the usual stereotypes. Puff, Puff, Pass is also your basic stereotypical B movie comedy where plot and story development takes second place for nonsensical scenes that are just there for a laugh or two. This, of course, involves crazy characters that show up for a laugh and disappear once the joke is over and a whole bunch of scenes that make no sense. There are a few running gags here and there including one involving a couple of transsexuals.

Somehow, Larry and Rico end up taking a job as courier for some smooth operator called Big Daddy. They are charged with delivering a briefcase full of rare coins to a “big guy with lots of tattoos” in exchange for a lot of money. Of course, with such a precise description of the buyer, nothing can possibly go wrong.

Interestingly enough, Puff, Puff, Pass is not as predictable as all that. This is not, by any stretch of the imagination a great comedy but it is the kind of movie you do not particularly mind watching on a rainy Sunday.
