Hot in Cleveland Season 3
Situation Comedy DVD set
3 discs, 24 episodes
TV Land 2012

Hot in Cleveland is a very good sitcom about four single women. Three are in their forties, one is not. This situation comedy stars veterans of the genre: Betty White (Golden Girls, Mary Tyler Moore, ect, etc), Valerie Bertinelli (One Day at a Time), Jane Leeves (Frasier), and Wendy Malick (Just Shoot Me).   In addition to great talent, Hot in Cleveland Season Three aired 2011-12 and features 24 episodes on three DVD. Generally, this is a very enjoyable season but the show is starting to show some wear.

Season three of Hot in Cleveland picks up where season two ended: Elka (Betty White) is at the altar when her long lost ex shows up and cancels the wedding. Also, it turns out Victoria and Joy have accitentally tied the knot, something ex soap star Victoria milks to get her career going again. This means the girls become the only straight women on a lesbian cruise.

Other highlights on DVD 1 include the episode where the girls tell about how they met way back in the eighties. It features a neat nod to a Robert Palmer videoone where Joy and Elka turn on a pair of rhinos.

Hot In Cleveland Season 3 DVD 2 has Melanie’s son engaged to Victoria’s daughter and Joy going out with a younger blind-but-not-for-long guy; Victoria’s nemesis Susan Lucci and Erica Kane show up in the same show as Baron Davis, this show has a great running gag involving musical punchlines and Elka’s phone; Mary Tyler Moore’s Georgette (Georgia Engel) Taxi’s Rhea Perlman, and eighties pop star Rick Springfield as a faux Rick Springfield show up in an episode where vampires join Gone With the Wind.

DVD 3 has a Storage War tie-in; Dave Spade unfortunately shows up in an episode with Regis Philbin; an episode where the girls set each other up with very odd blind dates including a newly defrocked priest, a guy with a tail, and Santa; and Christine Chenoweth (Glee, Pushing Daisies) guests in a episode with a great Botox gag at the beginning.

Hot In Cleveland Season 3 includes a behind the scenes featurette.

One complaint is there is no episode guide insert for this situation comedy DVD set. I’ve always found that just a little cheap.
