In a thoughtful gesture towards new fans of this goofy / strange mystery comedy the second season of Pushing Daisies opens with a quick presentation of all the background information you need to enjoy it. The Pushing Daisies DVD box set for The Complete Second Season features all 13 episodes on 4 discs and includes a few extra features. There is also a recap available before each episode.

If you think there’s nothing original on TV, you would have been wrong these last two years. Pushing Daisies is a very original, entertaining and, yes, odd mystery comedy. Pie-maker Ned (Lee Pace) has the power to bring people back from the dead. He did so with childhood friend Chuck (Anna Friel) whom he must not touch as this will maker her dead, permanently this time. Private eye Emerson Cod (Chi McBride) uses Ned’s powers of resurrection to ask murder victims who killed them in a quick and easy way to solve crimes and make a few bucks. Olive Snook, who works for Chuck and is also in love with him, begins season two in a nunnery to make sure she keeps all her secrets secret.

The oddest and yet most charming thing about this show is its bubble-gum candy land bright color look. It takes a little getting used to but it works for this show. The comedy here is on the bizarre but subtle side most of the time. A personal favorite is in episode 2 where a circus car full of clowns is really exploited.

Most of the 13 episodes on this season two Pushing Daisies DVD set are fun. The exception is episode 3, Bad Habits even if some of the TV priest references are funny. There is also something rather soap-operaish about some plot elements but you get used to that and it becomes part of the show.

The mysteries themselves are pretty good and inventive. Especially good are the dim sun murder and the Magic Castle case on DVD 2 of Pushing Daisies The Complete Second Season.

Pushing Daisies was unfortunately cancelled but fans of this mystery comedy can get the DVD set and share this very quirky and fun show with their friends.
