Community The Complete Second Season features a much better series of episodes than season one. The premise for this situation comedy is disbarred lawyer Jeff needs to get a real college degree if he is going to practice law again. He chose Greendale, a low-rent community college He formed a fake study group to get to a hottie named Britta but the study group ended up becoming a real group. Some say this NBC show deconstructs sitcoms and so on. I say it is usually quite fun to watch. This sitcom DVD set features 24 episodes on 4 discs.
In season one the group was taking Spanish. This year it is Anthropology with Betty White. The set-up for this sitcom means each show is pretty much a spoof, knock off, or allusion to some pop culture element.
Quite fun on DVD 1 are Messianic Myths and Ancient Peoples where Abed makes a movie about a movie about a movie about God and the Halloween episode Epidemiology, a zombie / horror movie fest that features a constant ABBA soundtrack for added horror and includes this memorable line from Abed to Troy “Make me proud. Be the first Black man to make it to the end.”
Worth the price of this situation comedy DVD set alone is the stop motion claymation like Christmas episode Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas. Even a Grinch has to like this one. The 17-minute special feature about this episode is also very good.
Then again, the last two episodes of Community The Complete Second Season are also worth the price: A Fistfull of Paintballs pits the students against each other, For A Few Paintballs More has them unite in a common cause. References to various westerns, spaghetti or otherwise, and Star Wars abound.
Unless it is the Pulp Fiction inspired Critical Film Studies on DVD 4.
