Cyrus is a rather icky romantic comedy DVD. That is but one reason why you either really like or despise this indie style Hollywood movie by the Duplass Brothers. Other reasons include somewhat uninteresting characters, slow pacing, and an improve feel to the dialogue that often works but not always so.  Honestly, I had to make myself sit through this one.

John (John C. Reilly) is a divorced man whose ex is going to get married soon. He has been in a funk ever since the divorce. She gets him to go to a party with her and her beau. John meets an interesting woman named Molly (Marisa Tomei). They hit it off. John stalks Molly to her house and meets Cyrus, her twenty-something son (Jonah Hill).

The thing is Molly and Cyrus are a little too close. Not close like overprotective mom but too close on an intimate level. If you find that relationship interesting this comedy will work for you but I just got creeped out.

This romantic comedy, of sorts, is original and does take some interesting turns. Cyrus gets jealous and tries to get between his mom and her new boyfriend. John and Cyrus soon end up in a battle of wills. This is a rather cliché set-up but the movie really gives it new life.

Unfortunately the characters have no on-screen energy whatsoever and look like they are just moping around.

This is a very weird one.
