The Rebound is a decent enough romantic comedy Blu-ray with more than enough moments to keep the viewer entertained. Newly divorced Sandy (Zeta-Jones) moves to New-York City to start a new chapter with her two pre-teen kids. She hires a sitter and nice Jewish boy named Aram (Justin Bartha) and the two develop feelings for each other. Irony is Zeta-Jones playing someone dating someone fifteen years younger and this movie being rated R.
The Rebound has more than its share of bad exposition writing but also has its share of more enjoyable and subtle comic moments. A scene early on in the movie is a perfect example of that. Sandy watches a video where her husband is cheating on her while she is singing “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” in the next room (subtle); to make sure the audience knows the guy in the video is Sandy’s husband the woman in the video says “I like doing this with you while Sandy is in the next room” (really not subtle).
It is Zeta-Jones and the better scenes and writing that keep a viewer interested in this romantic comedy. Sandy’s kids are also a hoot because the writers manage to keep them not be too Hollywood precocious.
Some have a problem with the movie’s ending. I do not, life is like that sometimes.
Look for John Schneider (Dukes of Hazard), Art Garfunkel (not Garfunkel & Oates) in minor roles.
