Happily Divorced is shot in front of a live audience. It should have stopped at shot. Created by the people who bought The Illustrated Sitcom Writing For Dummies and One-Liners From The Silent Era, Happily Divorced is a situation comedy about a woman (Drescher) whose husband comes out of the closet after 18 years of marriage. Fran and Peter Lovett can’t afford to live separately so still share the same house. Hilarity is supposed to ensue. Season One of this TV Land original situation comedy features 10 episodes on 2 DVD.

Never get botoxed before filming an episode of your sitcom. Comedy and a void expression do not mix unless you are Buster Keaton and though I wish she were silent Fran Drescher is no Buster Keaton.  Perhaps I am wrong and Drescher’s inability to smile is because of the dreadful material she delivers.

Every possible cliche, fag gag, and formula is present; and that’s just the pilot. Within eight minutes, opening credits included, Peter Lovett declares he’s gay, the couple divorces, and six months later (she actually says “I can’t believe it’s been six months already) Fran meets a new guy.

It is nice to see Rita Moreno in something. Lou Diamond Phillips shows up in episode 8.

Nobody will ever fight for custody of Happily Divorced Season One.
