I like a variety pack stand-up comedy DVD and this is what you get with VSC’s Comics Without Borders Season One. Host Russell Peters introduces 18 comics who all get their fifteen minutes to impress the TV and DVD audience. There are 9 shows on 2 discs and overall the stand-up comedy is pretty good, making Comics Without Borders a good bang for your buck.

What soon becomes clear on Comics Without Borders is none of these stand-ups made the show because they knew somebody and had an in. Still, not all the comedians here are excellent and a few have a bad night. Overall, the shows are fun to watch. Russell Peters does a short opening set for each show.

Some of the comics introduced here like Sebastian Maniscalco have already moved on to their own Comedy Central special and stand-up comedy DVD. He is on disc 1 along with Justin Worsham, Dean Edwards, Mike E. Wingfield, Shane Mauss, K-von, Tapan Trivedi, Angelo Tsarouchas, B-Phlat, and Derren Carter.  I especially enjoyed K-von, B-Phlat, and Wingfield.

DVD 2 of this stand-up comedy set features Erik Griffin, Ahmed Ahmed, Edwin San Juan, Bret Ernst, Felipe Esperza, Sam Tripoli of Spike TV fame, Yoshi Obayashi, and Canadian stand-up Kristeen Von Hagen. Ernst, Esperza, and Von Hagen are particularly good. Ahmed Ahmed has an off night.

Generally speaking, this is not a “family friendly” show. This is not a dirty show but it does feature adult topics and blue language of the more familiar kind.

If you like to see a few different acts at the same time, Comics Without Borders hosted by Russell Peters is a good deal.
