Cool cartoons!! Nostalgia buffs and anybody who grew up in the sixties and seventies will beg, borrow, or you know to get their hands on Saturday Morning Cartoons 1960s Volume 1. This sixties cartoon DVD features classic and impossible to find Hanna Barbera cartoons such as Atom Ant, Precious Pupp, Secret Squirrel, Squiddly Diddly, and Winsome Witch. If it was Hanna Barbera and aired in the sixties, there is a sample on the Saturday Morning Cartoons 1960s Volume 1 DVD set, sugary cereal not included.

As mentioned in the opening screen, few of the cartoons here are pristine. Few are that worse for wear either.  Aside from a 5 or 10 second sequence in Winsome Witch and the openings of the Peter Potamus Show and The Porky Pig Show, there is little to complain about. There is some dust and particles from time to time in the cartoons.

The Saturday morning cartoons or shows included on Saturday Morning Cartoons 1960s Volume 1 are DVD 1: Top Cat, Atom Ant / Precious Pupp / Hillbilly Bears, The Peter Potamus Show with Breezy and Sneezy and Yippee, Yappee, and Yahooie, Secret Squirrel / Squiddly Diddly / Winsome Witch, The Flintstones (featuring the original opening), The Porky Pig Show, The Quick Draw McGraw Show with Snooper & Blabber and Augie Doggie.

Especially good are Winsome Witch and its take on the Snow White tale; The Flintstones Happy Housewife episode; the Snooper and Blabber Outer Space Case, and the 2 Secret Squirrel and Morocco Mole episodes. Then again, I was always partial to Secret Squirrel.

Saturday Morning Cartoons 1960s Volume 1 DVD 2 include an episode of The Jetsons and the Battle to Save the World from Marine Boy. Marine Boy is a personal fave and one of the first American and Japanese animation studio collaborations but I have to admit this particular episode bites.

Also included are as episode of Space Ghost and a Dino Boy (not faves) as well as a Frankenstein Jr. & The Impossibles show with one Frankenstein Jr. episode and two Impossibles episodes.

This disc also includes a Magilla Gorilla episode but the DVD menu does not tell you it also features a Ricochet Rabbit and a Punkin Puss and Mush Mouse episode. There are also two Herculoids cartoons but they really did not cause any wonderful sixties Saturday morning cartoon memories.

Special features on DVD 2 of Saturday Morning Cartoons are a bonus episode of The Quick Draw McGraw Show with Snooper & Blabber and Augie Doggie, a short feature titled The Herculoids: The First Family from Planet Quasar, and a short feature on The Impossibles and Frankenstein Jr.

Warner Brothers’ Saturday Morning Cartoons 1960s Volume 1 DVD set is a must for anyone who was a kid back when Cocoa Puffs and Trix were considered good for you. If it was a Hanna Barbera production, it is here.

I really hope WB will continue these DVDs. Now, if only they could put the sugar back in the Cocoa Puffs.
