Futurama Into the Wild Green Yonder is the most inventive and easy to get into Futurama movie so far but unless you area hard-core fan of the series I am not sure the Blu-ray version is worth the extra buckage. The DVD version of Into the Wild Green Yonder looks just as good and there is only one extra special feature on the Blu-ray: a picture in picture commentary track.

Futurama Into the Wild Green Yonder is very episodic and sort of held together by the story of Sammy Wong building Mars Vegas and a universe size miniature golf course. This threatens a violet star and Wong’s disregard for all things endangered anger Leela who becomes an activist. Fry then becomes a double agent to support Leela’s cause.

Other story lines in this Futurama movie include Fry getting mind-reading powers and an aluminum hat to stop hearing all the voices (sound familiar?). This makes him the target of something called the Dark Ones. The Dark Ones part is kind of lame. There is also a million-dollar poker tournament in which Bender and Fry take part and Bender falling for the tin booty of the robot mob bosses’ wife.

Overall, this Futurama Blu-ray is very interesting visually and the best paced of all the movies in the franchise.

Unlike Leela in Into the Wild Green Yonder, Futurama is not going to change the fate of the universe but it is quite enjoyable.

Aside from the picture in picture commentary track, special features on the Futurama Into the Wild Green Yonder Blu-ray include Storyboard Animatic: Into the Wild Green Yonder, Part 1; Featurette: Matt Groening and David X. Cohen in Space!; Docudramarama: “How We Make Futurama So Good”; “Louder! Louder!”: The Acting Technique of Penn Jillette; Golden Stinkers: A Treasury of Deleted Scenes; How To Draw Futurama In 10 Very Difficult Steps; 3D Models with Animator Discussion; Bender’s Movie Theater Etiquette; and Zapp Brannigan’s Guide to Making Love at a Woman.

There is an Easter Egg if you click the menu wheel correctly. The egg is a short toilet roll animation of Bender having a beer.
