If you like Latino comics you are going to enjoy this stand-up comedy download by Felipe Esparza.
Enjoying Translate This does require a knowledge of some Spanish expressions to get the joke. If you do not have that, the material still works but you know you are missing something.
Felipe Esparza is an autobiographical comic. The show opens with the story of how his family immigrated to the U.S. This is followed by a very good bit about how he collected his mother’s Avon money from the kids at his school. I really think much, much more could have been done with this premise.
One experience many immigrant kids share is having to translate for their parents. Esparza’s bit on this is funny but again, I wish he had pursued this one further too
A particularly original and funny track on this stand-up comedy download is Dad’s Whistle where the dad communicate with his kids by whistling. There is a solid callback to this routine later on when Esparza gives directions to someone in a hospital.
The last third of Translate This by Felipe Esparza is about his experiences as a teenage and adult father. The best of the routines in this section is how to get around taking seven kids to McDonald’s and having to watch an adult film with his wife.
Though your average comedy fan will enjoy Translate This, it is aimed at a particular audience and this audience must also like explicit material. If you are this audience, you will enjoy this comedy download more.
